Shiny New Directors Network

We help new & under-represented directors worldwide to be more successful in commercial production

What is 'more successful'?

That's the first question we ask you. We help you define the options and maybe set goals, by showcasing the career profiles of other new directors and recently signed directors.

Common ambitions are to get more commissions and get signed to an independent rep or production company. For some directors, understanding how the industry works and knowing who's who is the first step. Some directors want better strategies for self-promotion, or to know what work to make to take them where they want to be.

Our weekly live Q&As are with hard-to-reach reps & producers, who take us through case studies illustrating hows and whys of a recent new director signing, or the details of a winning pitch and the video that was made. Members can ask questions and get to know our VIP guests.

  • Who commissions new directors and how do new directors connect with potential clients?
  • How and where should new directors research reps & production companies?
  • Who do new directors need to meet and how do they meet them?
  • How do other directors make it in this industry?
  • Are new directors making the right work to build their reel and their profile?

Shiny Network helps new directors get commissions and get signed, by:

  • Profiling relevant reps & production companies
  • Running weekly Q&As with hard-to-reach reps, producers & commissioners
  • Publishing role model interviews with established commercials directors
  • Promoting high score entries from the Shiny Awards, and encouraging members to share their own work & give each other feedback
  • Building knowledge about everything from building a client list to promoting yourself as a director

Directors who had work shortlisted in the most recent Shiny Awards get 6 months' free access to Shiny Network AND an invite to join the Curated Directors group

The weekly Q&As and interviews are all recorded so you can catch up or watch again.

Shiny Network helps reps & commissioners discover new talent, by:

  • Posting high-scoring Shiny Awards video entries into the Network and unlocking member access to the private ‘Curated Directors’ group, where reps can browse pre-vetted talent
  • Unlocking access to the private ‘Mentee Register’ where reps & producers can build super-early and protected relationships with promising new & under-represented directors
  • Promoting member companies inside Shiny Network and across Shiny’s public comms, including the +7k newsletter

About us

You might know us as the Shiny Awards - we organise quarterly awards and networking events at advertising agencies in London, LA & New York.

Shiny is run by a small team in the UK with thousands of industry contacts worldwide, many of them actively involved with us right now as judges and mentors.
Caroline Bottomley created the Shiny Awards, and before that, the world's first music video commissioning platform, Radar Music Videos.
Shiny is not-for-profit, uses diversity metrics and has a DEI advisory board to hold us accountable. The mission behind Shiny is to improve access to knowledge & networking, in the interests of equality & fairness.
